The term deratization refers to all procedures aimed at reducing the rodent population in a specific area. The goal of deratization is to lower the rodent population to the extent that it no longer poses a danger to the health of people and animals. Deratization procedures also help to limit the economic damage caused by rodent activities.

In limiting the movement and reproduction of rodents, a good hygienic management of the interiors of buildings and their surroundings is crucial. Rodents must be prevented from having free access to buildings. This is achieved by appropriately sealing the building's exterior envelope. Doors are only opened for the passage of people and goods, and are not used for ventilation.

In the case of preventive deratization, the deratization agent (poison or trap) is permanently installed in the environment. The products must be placed in such a way as to prevent collateral damage due to their presence. The trap or poison must be regularly monitored.
