Prevention measures for private property

PRIVATE PROPERTY

Private homeowners are not legally required to carry out insect control, even if their property is infested. We know that infestations spread into public sewers and neighbouring homes, so everyone should take the problem seriously and act responsibly towards their own property and, by extension, the wider community. Unfortunately, there is a common misconception that municipal utility companies or municipalities are responsible for dealing with pests on private property as part of insect control in public sewers.

Local community councils contribute by raising awareness, sharing information about coordinated action by everyone involved and, above all, explaining the distinction between infestations on private property and those in publicly accessible sewers.

PUBLIC SERVICES

The sewer network operator (UKO) regularly commissions disinfection, insect control and rodent control (DDD) services for publicly accessible sewers, in accordance with the relevant legislation. Regularly commissioning these services does not fully resolve the problem, as infestations mainly originate in homes and other buildings. The sewer network operator is not authorised to commission or carry out insect or rodent control in buildings belonging to others, as this involves working with toxic substances. Our company is neither permitted nor able to accept responsibility for any unfortunate incidents resulting from exceeding our authority or failing to comply with the regulations governing DDD services.

Hotels, public institutions, commercial premises and restaurants. When these establishments fail to fulfil their obligations, they are often the source of infestations. Fortunately, all of them are required to carry out regular monitoring or insect control. This gives us a means of securing their cooperation through the inspection authorities. It makes sense for everyone involved to carry out insect control during the same period.

Managers of apartment buildings and individual apartment owners are required to arrange insect control on behalf of residents when it is needed. It makes sense for everyone involved to carry out insect control during the same period.
